A Journey of Faith, Resilience, and Hope

This is Bilal Al-Lahham from Deir al-Balah in the Gaza Strip. During the devastating war, his home was completely destroyed, and the land that was his family’s main source of livelihood was bulldozed and taken away.
Bilal is only 20 years old, yet he carries the responsibility of supporting his family of 11. His father is an elderly man suffering from diabetes and is unable to work, leaving Bilal as the main provider for his family.
Despite living through unimaginable hardships, war, repeated displacement, fear, loss, and hunger, Bilal refused to give up on his future. He held onto his pen and notebook, continuing his studies while holding onto the hope that education could change his life and improve his family’s situation.
Through determination and perseverance, Bilal graduated from high school with honors in the science stream, achieving an outstanding average of 94%. His dream has always been to study medicine and become a doctor, but financial hardship prevented him from enrolling in university because he could not afford the tuition fees.
For the past three years, Bilal’s education has been put on hold. His dreams, ambitions, and the life he worked so hard for have been deeply affected by circumstances beyond his control.
Now, Bilal is seeking a scholarship opportunity in another country where he can continue his education, escape the unbearable conditions around him, and pursue his dream of becoming a doctor. His greatest hope is that, once he succeeds and builds a future abroad, he will be able to help evacuate and support his entire family.
Bilal is a proud Muslim whose faith in Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) has been a source of strength, patience, and hope throughout every hardship he has faced. He is also a gifted Quran reciter, and the words of the Quran bring him comfort and reassurance during the most difficult moments of his life.
Despite the pain, loss, and challenges surrounding him, Bilal’s connection with his faith remains strong. His trust in Allah gives him the motivation to keep moving forward, continue pursuing his dreams, and believe that better days are possible. His faith reminds him to remain patient, grateful, and determined, even when life feels overwhelming.
For Bilal, the Quran is not only something he recites, it is a source of peace and guidance that helps him endure the struggles he and his family have experienced. His belief in Allah is what keeps his heart strong and gives him the courage to continue fighting for a better future for himself and his loved ones.
